A Cappella gems
Unlimited numbers – open for all
Beat has been collecting different ‘species’ of a cappella world music for over 30 years – some even rare and endangered. In this workshop he will present some of the most fun, haunting, moving … of them as a smorgasbord of a cappella from all parts of the world bringing home the whole breadth of global choral expression.
Beat Lehmann is the founder and director of the award-winning Aquapella World Music Choir in Townsville and one of the leading world music choir conductors and arrangers in Australia. He teaches workshops around Australia and abroad and works principally with people without musical training, teaching songs of joy, hope and peace from around the world. He led Aquapella to first place in the ABC Queensland Choir of the Year competition in 2007 and has twice been invited to teach workshops at the prestigious “Stimmenfestival” in Germany, teaching alongside greats like Bobby McFerrin. In Australia Beat has performed regularly at the Woodford Folk Festival with Aquapella and has been director of the Festival Choir between 2008 and 2014. Determined to bring some of his musical friends together to the island for some fun, he started a project called Music on Magnetic in 2009, which has now developed into a well-known ‘boutique’ music festival with internationally acclaimed teachers and performers.
